I'm a Texan. You don't live here for more than half a century and ever suspect that you're about to have the best tortilla chips you've ever had, when you walk into a restaurant. Nor do you suspect you'll have the best (barbacoa) quesadilla you have ever had. I was blown away. Also, get the bottled sodas and remember what it was like before they started using corn syrup instead of pure Cain sugar.

Excellent place to grab an authentic Mexican meal. No watered down Tex-Mex here, just good home-style Mexican food with friendly staff and a peaceful atmosphere. Prices are good and they have specials for each day of the week (Taco Tuesday anyone??) Highly recommended! One of the best, hidden little hole-in-the-wall places in North Texas. ** Ask for their Birria Tacos, they're not on the menu, and you won't regret it !!

This is the second time we've visited here, so this review is not just a one off situation.. First time we visited, it was a little busy so I didn't take it personally when we were treated a bit harshly. It was our first time there so we didn't know what to order and asked a few questions. The lady at the front was very short with us and didn't really explain or seem happy to be there at all.. We thought it might be an off day so we tried again last night. It was not busy at all. One other table and they guests were acting like family of the restaurant owners having dinner so I figured it was going to be a better visit. Firstly, it smelled bad when we came in like septic system was backed up or something.. we overlooked it and stuck with them and went to place our order. SAME attitude from the same lady that was there last time. Same contempt for us being there to inconvenience her by placing an order there and spending no less than $70 after TIP for 4 people (2 adults 2 kids).. It took forever to get our tortas/gordita plates. She was nice enough to get us a second bowl of chips after I asked for it while we waited. She came out after we got our food to ask if we needed anything else. We appreciated that as well. but the food wasn't outstanding and there was not very much meat on the tortas for the amount of money we spent.. tasted like a bread sandwich with a touch of brisket.. fatty brisket. We have plenty of choices nearby to choose from so we will just have to visit another restaurant in the future. We love spending our money at local, family owned businesses but only when the owners appreciate their customers for taking the time to frequent their place of business. I hate leaving not great reviews, but I couldn't NOT say anything. Again, sorry for the non-stellar review.

A hidden gem in plain sight. Wow! Tucked back on the Square in Leonard, this was an unexpected and unassuming surprise. This is so much more than a taco shop. Beyond the expected fare when you go for Mexican food, this menu is interesting and divine. Everything is made fresh including the corn tortillas. The breadth of menu items reaches into lesser known but scrumptious regional dishes and they offer two unique dishes each day. It is family owned and operated and they are delightful people. I had a mouth-watering squash dish with a variety of peppers; poblano, jalapeño, red peppers, mild yellow peppers, two types of squashes, and a medley of other vegetables drenched in a perfectly simmered garlic and cream sauce It had the perfect pop of a spice profile. The presentation was clean and thoughtful. Sorry no photo, I happily slurped it up before I thought of that. My diet is low-carbohydrate and they were so accommodating and eager to prepare for me foods that fit my plan. I added a side of fajita chicken. Delectable! What's a Mexican restaurant without fresh salsa? My first taste yielded a balanced mix of flavors; tang, tomato, onion, garlic, and more. I thought - hmmmm- very mild. But wait. After a minute it had the most memorable and subtle spicey sensation without the burning lips. A gem. Truly a gem. Thank you, Jose and family!
